My Favorite Addition to Cedar Point in 2020

January 12, 2021

by Kelly C.

Cedar Point  scaled back a lot of offerings this past year, but surprisingly, there were still a few new additions for park guests to enjoy. In early spring, I had my doubts that my home park would even be open at all, let alone open with any welcomed surprises. So, in a spirit of gratitude, I wanted to recommend my favorite addition to Cedar Point in 2020: the Discover Cedar Point History App.

I learned about this new offering through a tweet from Cedar Point back in August. I knew that the park would be commemorating Cedar Point’s 150th anniversary this year and next year through special food, merchandise, and entertainment options. However, I had no idea that this app was part of the celebration. It is currently available on Google Play and Apple’s App Store.

Technically, the app is supposed to function as a walking tour for when you’re actually at the park, but I found it enjoyable to just browse through it while at home and curled up on my couch. I would recommend using it as a walking tour for first-time visitors to the park, or those who know very little about Cedar Point’s layout and history. However, I cannot stress enough that even if you’re a seasoned park-goer, you’re bound to learn something new from it.

The app features some interesting interviews with members of the Cedar Point management team.  It also displays some amazing vintage photographs; my personal favorites are the aerial photos. I love to compare what the park looked like years ago to what it looks like now. My one suggestion would have been that the photos be labeled with the years that they were taken, as it’s not always easy to determine the time period of each scene.

Lastly, I want to extend a sincere thank you to those who participated in the making of the Discover Cedar Point History App. This product provided some much-needed escapism and fun during the 2020 amusement season, and it made me even more excited for the 2021 season.
